"If you teach a child to read, you have done your
job.
If you teach a child to love to read, you have changed their life forever"
We are so excited to once again be able to share our love of reading with your children. They come to library once a week and during that time they will have a lesson and then some time to check out books. Many library skills will be covered this year. We will be learning the parts of a book, so that the children can locate the title, author and call number on a book, among other things. All of the children will be working on how the library is organized and how to locate books. Understanding how the library is organized and that ALL libraries are organized in the same way increases the enjoyment of a person using the library. We will be doing author studies as a way to get the children excited about different authors and genres of books. Third graders will be learning how to use encyclopedias and almanacs so that they will be able to do research for their country reports.
I hope that all of your children are enjoying the books that they bring home from the library. Children may check out 2 books on library day providing they have returned all of their books. When books have been overdue for one month we will be sending home a note to pay for the book. If the book is subsequently found, the money will be refunded.
We are lucky enough at Island to have music CDs available for checkout. These CDs were donated by Bonnie Landcraft's parents and by the PTO. They are a mixture of classical music, Americana (Sousa, Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger), and music from different countries (Ireland, Bulgaria, Israel, etc.). The children during their music class cover all of the music we have in the library. This is a way for your children to bring home a piece of music that they have enjoyed to share with the family and to extend their listening pleasure. Each child may check out one music CD on library day.
Please feel free to come in and visit us in the library whenever you like and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to call. 245-6475 x7365
